What a disappointing sequel to one of my favorite games. Arkham City is the most realized perfect video game sequel I have ever experienced, and I consider it a must play title. There is a case to be made that the open world evolution suffers from many of the problems that plague most open world games, but for me, the other elements of the game, such as navigation, stealth, and combat, more than make up for its inefficiencies. More than any other game I have played, Arkham City keeps what worked, improves what could be tweaked, and adds so much more quality content. Arkham City as a location is just so incredible, varied, and well realized that it just about makes up for the failures of the story. The story is about the only thing that feels worse than the original, and even then it is only a minor disappointment rather than a huge letdown. ![]() There is a natural progression from Arkham Asylum that feels damn near perfect, adapting the Metroidvania design over to an open world surprisingly well. In almost every way, this game feels like an absolute improvement over its previous title in a way that very few sequels ever achieve. Arkham City is the best sequel I have ever played. ![]()
